While Silicon industry is looking towards 450mm wafer size, many Nitride LED epiwafer makers are still transitioning from 2” to 4” wafers and a few are working on 6” Sapphire and Si substrates.
Various attempts are done to predict the future of LED manufacturing and there are many viable scenarios. Along with the status quo, some new technologies will definitely constitute a significant share of the production environment. Those technologies focusing on larger wafer sizes, cheaper substrates, and strengthening their technologies with volume manufacturing will have means of obtaining cost advantage over the traditional technologies of today.
