Overview

Apple's reported plans to integrate Micro LED into future Apple Watch models has reignited interest in field of micro-display. Aiming to seize burgeoning opportunities from various micro-display applications, companies involved in the display industry are now ramping up efforts to develop and promote related products.

TrendForce predicts that the launch of Apple's new Apple Watch with Micro LED display will drive the growth of the Micro LED market. The market value for Micro LED chips in wearable device displays is expected to surge to US$172 million in 2024 and US$463 million in 2025. This release will inspire other electronics companies to invest in developing and promoting wearable devices with similar display technology. TrendForce forecasts a strong CAGR of 873% for the market value from 2022 to 2027.

LEDinside, a division of TrendForce, will host the Micro LEDforum on September 5th. The forum will cover key topics including Metaverse trends, Micro LED technology advancements, and innovative applications. Industry experts will share market insights, company progress updates, and notable technological breakthroughs in 2023.

Her contributions have encompassed a wide range of displays, including those for TV, monitor, notebook, tablet, as well as immersive VR and AR experiences.
As VP Product Management at Mojo Vision, Grace brings her 20 years of experience leading the development of display solutions for the world's greatest technology companies.
Before joining Mojo, Grace was the director of IT new product integration division in manufacturing technology center at AUO, manager of iPad display TPM at Apple, Moonshot project display-optics manufacturing solution TPM in Google [x], tech lead of VR/AR display-optics development programs, and hardware engineer manager initiating and leading the AR Micro-LED display program at Google.
Grace received PhD and BS degrees in Chemical Engineering from National Taiwan University; MS degree in Biomedical Engineering from National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University, Taiwan.

Mr. Chen received his master's degree (2006) at the Institute of Photonics Technologies, National Tsing Hua University. He served as R&D Director at EPISTAR from 2006 to 2018 and has been the Senior Director and Quality Representative at Optoelectronic Device Center, Unikorn since 2018.
From 2006 to 2012, Mr. Chen focused on AlInGaP LED research and his team developed the Aquarius-series LED, breaking the worldwide record for efficiency with 180 lm/w in 2010. Since 2012, he has been studying Micro LED and VCSEL devices and has obtained over 136 patents for optoelectronics devices, including fields in LED, Micro LED and VCSEL.
In 2018, EPISTAR created a spin-off called Unikorn for foundry service. Mr. Chen joined the new company and was in charge of fab manufacturing, process module and integration team in the early stages. Currently, he is responsible for the Optoelectronics Device Center and serves as the Quality Representative. His team has successfully developed VCSEL technology and has produced over 500kk chips through the foundry service. Furthermore, his team has also developed Micro LED technology and collaborated with other display module companies to realize mass production of Micro LED in 2023.
