在Micro LED應用即將開始普及的狀況下,LEDinside預估至2025年應用在大尺寸顯示器的Micro LED產值將會達到19.8億美元占全體應用的68%。而今年LEDinside也針對六大主要製程瓶頸,邀請國內外專家做精闢解析:在磊晶與晶片製程,將分別以晶片及設備角度探討Micro LED的晶片及相關製程解決方案,在巨量轉移方面,將由eLux、Uniqarta、QMAT、KIMM及等業界代表講述各種巨量轉移之技術方法,在全彩化方面,將由Nitride Semiconductors發表由UV-LED微型晶片激發的全彩化圖案的技術及Topcon的Micro LED亮度和色彩檢測方法,在驅動方面,則由Macroblock發表最新的Micro LED驅動IC的解決方案。

LEDinside預估至2025年Micro LED市場產值將會達到28.91億美元。目前Micro LED 所面臨的技術瓶頸,共區分六個面向,包括磊晶與晶片、轉移、全彩化、電源驅動、背板及檢測與修復技術。 由於Micro LED的性能優良,可應用在穿戴式的手錶、手機、車用顯示器、擴增實境/虛擬實境、顯示屏及電視…等領域,但因為技術困難及加工成本較高,因此更適合應用在高階的電視、顯示屏及車用顯示器。 Micro LED卡在重重製程瓶頸尚待突破,短期內難有商品化產品出現,廠商轉攻以現有設備並改變部分製程參數條件就可以研發出的Mini LED等級產品。TrendForce LED研究(LEDinside)指出,Mini LED未來可能的發展方向,涵蓋電視、手機、車用面板、顯示屏等,預估2023年整體Mini LED產值將達到10億美元,其中LED顯示屏及大尺寸電視等,將是Mini LED未來應用的主流。 LEDinside 將於Micro LEDforum 全面解析2018 Micro LED 技術挑戰與 Mini / Micro LED市場機會。

The micro-LED display is one of candidate of next generation display panel, but it is a tough challenge. We propose a solution which is excited by near Ultraviolet LED. The RGB full color element which is exited by near UV-LED can gain excellent color combination because there are many RGB phosphors suitable for near UV region. Furthermore its control circuit is easier compared with the integrated monolithic RGB LED method. In order to make a real flexible micro LED display, we need to develop 4 processes such as micro LED chip, color conversion technology, Laser Lift off and reconstitution from sapphire to back plane, mainly. The micro LED chip will be introduced by Mr.Muramoto of Nitride Semiconductor Co.,Ltd in this session. Due to the low emission efficiency of R, G micro LED Chips, a patterning technology of fluorescence resists have been developed. V-technology have developed R, G, B resists which consist of inorganic fluorescence materials to keep long life time. These materials in the small cells are arrayed on the PI Film. The minimum size of the cell is 10×30 μm. An apparatus of LLO has been developed and is used to determine the optimum condition of LLO for micro LED chips. As for the reconstitution process, we are developing a new technology without using adhesive tape transfer.

Unlike conventional pick-and-place or direct bonding transfer, eLux focuses on the massively parallel assembly processes that enable low cost manufacturing of displays at arbitrary pixel pitch. Technical details of the fluidic assembly process will be presented.

The solution is selective in that undesired microLEDs can be avoided and only desired ones placed. Realizing the great promise of microLED displays requires cost-effective microLED mass-production. Four key areas spanning materials, process and production equipment are reviewed to understand their interactions and role in achieving high-yield MicroLED mass-production. The mass-transfer assembly step is of particular importance as the point where other key steps converge to form the emissive display array. Proposed mass-transfer technologies and approaches will be introduced and compared for their compatibility with requirements to achieve high-speed, cost-effective microLED mass-production. Unique microLED test challenges at the wafer level, compatible mass-transfer equipment capabilities will be discussed. The key elements of the four steps driving MicroLED assembly yield, uniformity, scalability and production throughput will also be presented.

In this talk, manufacturing process of flexible inorganics electronics is overviewed, and the transfer process is highlighted as a key enabling technology. The basic mechanics of transfer is described, and a roll-to-plate transfer technology is introduced for high productivity. Some demonstrations realized by the roll-to-plate transfer are presented including flexible thin film transistor (TFT), flexible silicon memory, mini-LED signage, and stretchable micro-LED display.

Paul Schuele

Dr. Schuele has been the technical lead for µLED display development at Sharp Labs of America until 2016. In October 2016 he cofounded eLux to commercialize µLED technology and he is currently CTO and process integration lead at eLux. The current work is a collaboration with LED manufacturers, materials suppliers and display backplane manufacturers to make large area direct emitting displays.
He received a Ph.D. in Solid State Physics from Montana State University and has been a materials scientist and process integration engineer at Inmos, Ramtron, Micron and tsmc. He holds 64 US patents primarily in the fields of sensors, semiconductor processing and flat panel displays.

Francois J. Henley is President and CEO of QMAT, Inc., a developer of engineered substrate process technology for the optoelectronics and power electronics markets. Mr. Henley is also President and CEO of Tesoro Scientific, Inc., a developer of microLED test and mass-transfer equipment.
Prior to QMAT, Mr. Henley was the founder and President of Silicon Genesis Inc. (SiGen, an electronic substrate technology company). Mr. Henley was also the founder and President of Photon Dynamics, a leader in LCD flat-panel production test equipment using the Voltage Imaging method for TFT array test he invented.
Mr. Henley holds a BSEE from RPI and an MSEE from the University of California, Berkeley, where he also completed PhD course requirements in quantum electronics and semiconductor materials science.
Mr. Henley has authored over 30 papers and articles and is named in over 140 patents in the areas of metrology, SOI and opto-electronic processing.
